A street trading card game, live on Android and the web

A ranked online card game with 169 cards across 14 crews, a 3D street lobby and a full deck builder, shipped to Google Play and the browser from one codebase.

BLOC: The Street Trading Card Game. 169 cards, 14 crews, ranked online.

The idea

BLOC is a trading card game set on the street, where players build crews, battle for territory and try to bankrupt their rivals. It’s live on Google Play and in the browser.

A realtime multiplayer game is one of the hardest kinds of software to get right, and the same patterns power the live, multi-user apps we build for clients.

What we built

  • Ranked online battles. Each player starts with a $2,500 stack. Characters, equipment, traps and territories fight to knock the other player’s stack to zero. There are also bot opponents for practice.
  • 169 cards across 14 crews. Every crew is strong against two others and weak against two, with a built-in matchup chart so players can plan around it.
  • Packs with the odds shown. Players open packs to collect legendary, epic, rare and common cards. The drop rates are always visible.
  • A full deck builder. Filters, a cost curve, crew breakdown and matchup analysis, with deck rules enforced (20–30 cards, 1–3 territories, at most 2 legendaries).
  • A living 3D street. Between matches, players hang out on the block as avatars in their crew colors, see who’s online and challenge anyone, or shoot hoops on the court.

Under the hood

BLOC is a JavaScript application with a Three.js 3D lobby, running on a Supabase backend for player accounts and game data. The same codebase ships to the web and, wrapped with Capacitor, to Android as a native app. Sentry monitors errors in production, so problems surface before players report them.

One codebase for every platform keeps a small team fast. It’s the approach we recommend to clients who need to be on phones and the web without paying to build everything twice.
